These often allow for easier replacement of individual tubes if they get damaged. ​How It Works: ​The mattress connects to an electric air pump (compressor) that stays on constantly. The pump uses "alternating pressure," meaning it inflates and deflates different sections of the mattress in a cycle. This ensures that no single part of the patient’s body—especially the back, hips, and heels—is under constant pressure, which helps maintain healthy blood flow to the skin. ​Essential Care Tips: ​Positioning: Even with this mattress, it is still very important to turn the patient or change their position every 2 hours if possible. ​Skin Hygiene: Keep the skin clean and perfectly dry.
